Seminar
All full time students will be enrolled in a seminar period on Red Days from 1105-1229. It is important that everyone understands what seminar is and isn’t. The purpose of the seminar is to provide students an opportunity to get assistance where they may need additional help. It is a time when they can work on special projects with teachers, a time to study for a test or catch up on homework, a time to do make-up work following an absence, a time to do work in the Media
Center, and a time to meet with counselors, etc. Seminar is not a social hour or a time to catch up on sleep, or a time to take a late breakfast break. Normal attendance and tardy procedures will apply during the seminar period. If a student is truant from seminar, they will be disciplined just the same as any other class.
Ø Students are required to adhere to the following conditions during seminar period:
Ø Students must report to their assigned seminar class. There will be a 20-minute quiet time.
Ø Bring study material or work to the seminar class.
Ø Students are not allowed to sleep, listen to music, eat or consume beverages.
Ø Once seminar begins, students will not be allowed to go to their lockers or use the rest room.
Ø Students may work quietly in pairs or in small groups if the seminar teacher agrees.
Ø At 1229 hours, students will report back to their seminar class to sign back in.
Ø Be aware that students in violation of any of the above mentioned items may be restricted to
their seminar class or discipline action taken.
Beginning 2nd quarter, students who have a 4.0 GPA or higher are eligible for Honor Seminar.
Honor Seminar Students are not required to get pre-arranged seminar passes.
The most important aspect of the seminar period is the freedom of the students to work with
teachers. Students are encouraged to use their time wisely.
