What is ASACS?
The Adolescent Substance Abuse Counseling Services (ASACS) is a part of the Lakenheath Medical Treatment Facility. ASACS Counselors educate the Air Force community about adolescent substance abuse. ASACS primary goal is to treat those adolescents experiencing problems with alcohol and other drugs or as a result of a family members alcohol or other drug abuse.
What services does ASACS offer?
ASACS Counselors provide prevention education materials, class-room presentations, workshops, and programs to adolescents, parents, and the community. They teach community members how to identify substance abuse and refer adolescents to ASACS for help. They also provide individual, group and family counseling.
Who is eligible for ASACS services?
ASACS services are available and free to all military children and their families authorized to receive care at U.S. military facilities, regardless of military or civilian status. ASACS informational, educational, and in-service training services are also available to military community resource personnel. ASACS maintains strict confidentiality. Teens, 15 years of age or older are protected by a Federal Regulation that allows them to talk to the ASACS counselor without having to get parental consent. However, parental involvement is highly encouraged. Having parents involved will help students have a better home life and will make talking to their parents easier. Limitations to confidentiality include suicidal ideation, homicidal ideation and child abuse.
